Making Fimo Beads :: Expository Process Essays
Making Fimo Beads The "Generation X" population of today's society has made the wearing of beaded necklaces containing fimo beads quite a fashion statement. These necklaces contain small, round, colored plastic beads and other intricate beads made out of different colored fimo. Fimo is a synthetic material similar to modeling clay, and can be used to make thousands on types of beads. These beads can then be incorporated into necklaces. However, to accurately describe the process of making this style of bead, a simple pattern will be used as an example. Specifically, the fimo example described will have a pattern with a small, yellow circular center surrounded by three small, green triangles and three small, red triangles. The following process will allow anyone without artistic ability to create a simple, inexpensive fimo bead that can later be used in stylish necklaces. The first step in the process involves taking a trip to a local craft store like, A. C. Moore, or a department store such as Wal*Mart, to buy the necessary supplies. For the example fimo bead, red, yellow, and green fimo must be purchased. To make a complete necklace, other colored plastic beads would have to be bought along with a spool of beading thread and a silver clasp. Also, a sharp flat-edged cutting tool (for example, a razor blade) and a thick, large pin will also be necessary tools in the final stages of the bead making process. Once the supplies are gathered, the bead making process is ready to begin. The fimo color that will make up the center circle in the bead (in this case, yellow) is the color that is first readied. A piece of fimo with the diameter of a quarter and the width of a pencil, is pinched off from the larger slab of fimo. It is then rubbed between both hands in a circular motion until it is warm and no longer cracks when folded in half. Then, from that small, primed piece of fimo, a smaller, nickel-sized piece is pinched and rolled on a flat surface. The fimo is rolled into a cylindrical log that is approximately three inches long. It is important to ensure that the log is not too thin, meaning it does not easily pull apart. Surrogacy in India
The essay, ââ¬Å"Inside India's surrogacy industryâ⬠, talked about how the surrogacy industry made an impact on India. Being a socially conservative country, India surprisingly does not reject the idea but rather supportive of it. The confederation of Indian industry reported that by 2012, the practice of surrogacy will generate 2. 3 billion dollars. Why is this industry advancing so fast in India? First of all, commercial surrogacy is legal in India, while it is still banned in many other countries. With the business growing so fast, the government is drafting laws to make sure surrogacy is not being privatized. The government is setting the age limit of the surrogate mother to 35 and can only have the maximum of 5 pregnancies, including their own children. Another reason that surrogate mothers are so popular in India is the pricing. In western countries, surrogacy can cost up to 90,000 dollars but in India, the surrogates are only being paid around 6500 to 7500, which is the sum of their income for several years. While this seems like a perfect balance of supply and demand, it does raise some alarming questions. Has the need for survival or simply living a better life twisted the fabric of traditional human beliefs? India, a religious and conservative country, allows their women to simply ââ¬Å"rentâ⬠out their wombs. To my understanding, the ability to reproduce is a gift from god. Putting a price tag on something so precious and sacred is no better than prostitution. If prostitution is illegal, then why shouldn't paid surrogacy be? If compared, prostitution may create less long term problem than the surrogate business. Another problem that we should realize is that the Western side of the world should not bring their problems to the east. Child labor and sex related business in China, underage sex trade in Thailand and Indonesia and more other problems were brought in by the westerners. Anything they could not fulfill in their countries, were brought to the weaker east. At times, the supply and demand rule apply but so do many social and health problems. Children who work in sweat shops do not get proper education and they will only remain working in the shop. Children who sell their bodies at a young age were misled to believe that it is a proper method for survival. Surrogacy is not the world's most critical problem but it does touch on many ethnical issues . What needs to be done is carefully review different possibilities and draft laws to heavily regulate. Being able to reproduce is a gift , not a business.

The Effects of Technology on Teens
The Effects of Technology on Teens Modern day technological advancements are constantly seen throughout every aspect of life. Cell phones, portable Internet availability, laptop computers, iPods, mp3 players of every brand, and many other devices, are everywhere. They seem to possess unending possible detriments, but, along with such issues, technology also has positive impacts on todayââ¬â¢s youth. In some situations, the Internet and iPod prevent sociability, though in others they may be the cause of increased social activity.Overall, modern technology has the capability to bring people together as well as enhance the social abilities of the todayââ¬â¢s youth; however, if used without discretion, can also create a less interactive generation, frequently depending on technology for satisfaction. The immense capabilities of the Internet today are astonishing, and offer many positive opportunities for teens. Primarily, the Internet makes sharing information fast and simple, desp ite factors that in other cases would prohibit such simple distribution.According to Jean-Francois Coget in Source C, ââ¬Å"With the Internet, information can be transmitted and received with ease at any time of the day to and from any number of friends. â⬠It is possible to send videos, pictures, papers, projects, and a quantity of other things with the click of a button. The transfer can happen in seconds. The amazing capability of modern day Internet simplifies teenage life, by providing a way to convey knowledge. Another way in which Internet proves positive is by providing a way to keep in touch with friends and family worldwide, or just across town.Whether itââ¬â¢s a friend that switched schools and is never around, or a family member in London, the Internet makes it possible to email, instant message, and even video chat. Such qualities of Internet communication bring people together with more frequent contact, boosting sociability and relationships. In addition, the Internet also has the capability to, ââ¬Å"foster openness, self-confidence, and a greater sense of ease, and comfort in dealing with othersâ⬠(Source C).Since it is not obligatory to reveal physical appearance or social status over the Internet, it grants an opportunity to be a completely new person, who is entirely open and confident. Internet chats, even with mere acquaintances, can supply a chance for socially challenged teens to experience a form of social interaction, in order to create a sense of composure. Modern day Internet advancements not only offer an easier way to share information, but also contribute to sociability by providing a way to communicate with distant friends and family, as well as giving socially challenged teenagers an opportunity for interaction.Likewise, another modern day technology, the iPod, may also have a positive effect on some teenagers, by presenting a different view of the world as well as uniting individuals through musical taste. In th e eyes of Kelly Doyle-Mace, in Source D, ââ¬Å"music deepens the experience of walking through the world, rather than detracting from it. â⬠There are millions of songs out there, one to match every possible mood. Sometimes, turning on just the right song can be motivational and provide a completely new outlook on a certain circumstance. In addition, lyrics are often relatable to personal life and can be significant or simply encouraging. Another way in which iPods and personal musical taste is a positive effect on teens is by uniting people of different backgrounds and diversities through their music choice. Lisa and Johnny Rocket, hosts of ââ¬Å"iPod DJ nights,â⬠describe that one night a month they invite guests to bring their iPods to a London bar. Where they can play whatever songs they choose (Source D). ââ¬Å"Even more diverse than the music are the membersâ⬠¦ the iPod acts to bring people together,â⬠Lisa explains (Source D).These gatherings prove that a s diverse as music can be, it is also unifying. The multitudes of people attending these parties, from every race background and belief, are united through their assorted music taste. IPods have the potential to positively affect todayââ¬â¢s youth by matching any and every mood with music, resulting in a deeper walk through life, as well as bringing people together by means of musical interest. The alternative argument is that the Internet can be a significantly negative influence on teenagers, if overused. Constant Internet use detracts time that could be spent with friends and family.Hours wasted away typing useless messages is detrimental to personal relationships with the ones who really matter. It was discovered through a study in Pittsburgh that people who use the Internet most often are ââ¬Å"spending less time talking with their familiesâ⬠¦keeping up with fewer friendsâ⬠(Source B). It is of no use to spend so much time talking to people over the Internet, when one could just as easily walk down the stairs and spend time with family, or go to see friends instead. According to Source F, Internet users participate in approximately 244. minutes per day spent with friends and family, while non-Internet users spend on average 381. 6 minutes per day with friends and family. Modern day Internet opportunities are decreasing physical interaction and essential quality time. The Pittsburgh study also determined that such teens are ââ¬Å"feeling more lonely and depressedâ⬠(Source B). Even though teenagers are simply using the Internet for ââ¬Å"interpersonal communication,â⬠it is causing reliance on brightly lit screens and keyboards, instead of sincere personal interactions with close friends and family members (Source B).Investing too much on Internet chats will inevitably produce a sense of deprivation, and a resulting sense of loneliness from a lack of real relationships and personal contact. Obsessive or constant use of the Internet as a social tool deprives teens from necessary relationships that are crucial to life, especially throughout high school and college, which will ultimately result in a damaging sense of loneliness and depression. Similarly, iPods, much like the Internet, become a negative influence on teenagers, when in constant use.According to a university studentââ¬â¢s study of iPods, ââ¬Å"the main appeal of the iPod is that it preoccupies you so you are no longer obligated to interact with the uncontrollable factors of everyday lifeâ⬠(Source E). IPods provide an easy escape from having to interact with strangers in a public situation; because, in just about any situation, pressing play can zone everything out. This portable instant entertainment takes away opportunities to meet new people, or just admire the surroundings and environment of a new place.Although it is a solution to boredom, there are other, more advantageous, solutions such as social interaction. Such disregard to disc overing new people and new places leads to isolation. The obvious signal iPods send out is ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t bother trying to talk to meâ⬠(Source E). Headphones constantly blasting music often prevent conversations that could prove to be much more worthwhile. The need to continuously be surrounded by oneââ¬â¢s own familiar environment results in countless missed opportunities for meeting new people or experiencing ââ¬Å"natural sights and oundsâ⬠(Source E). The Internet and iPod affect todayââ¬â¢s youth in positive ways; however, when not used in moderation, can become negative influences. Modern technologies are positive by providing simple communication, unifying diversities, and deepening the experiences of the world through music. Those same technological advancements can become highly addictive, and like all addictions, have negative consequences. Teens who are constantly engaged in using technologies become so addicted that they spend less time with loved ones, and feel lonely and depressed.Technological addiction is leading to a more isolated generation, overly dependent on technology. Modern technological advances, particularly the Internet and iPod, have many positive effects on todayââ¬â¢s youth, yet if overused can lead to addiction, which consequently produces negative influences and over obsession. Although technology can be profitable, it must be used in moderation, as not to damage the social ability of todayââ¬â¢s youth.

Test-Taking Tips and Strategies
Test-Taking Tips and Strategies Of all the stressors that come with earning a degree in higher education, taking a test ââ¬â or exam, rather ââ¬â often causes the most stress. Tests are rarely simple, most always a challenge, and, worst of all, the student hardly knows what to expect ââ¬â even those whoà have done their work, studied hard and prepared well for the exam.à The key to successful test taking, however, is preparation and avoiding carelessness when taking the test. How to Write a College Research Paper Taking a test demonstrates the studentââ¬â¢s ability to understand their course material and use that knowledge ina pragmatic way. There are two kinds of tests: objective tests ââ¬âtrue/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank; andsubjective tests ââ¬â short answer, essay, oral exams. Regardless of the student, their approach to taking tests, intelligence, skill level, or if they have a proclivityfor performing well on tests, here are a few suggestions for the student who wishes to excel on tests. Test-Taking Tips and Strategies Improve test-taking abilities by looking at old tests. When preparing for any test, the student should review previously taken tests to be aware of areas that may require more attention. Each test a student takes in some way prepares them for the next ââ¬â especially the Final exam. Be early, early, early. The day of a test, the student should one, get up out of bed at an early hour, early enough to get a good, healthy breakfast before reviewing last-minute notes. Also, the student should arrive early to the test-taking site to avoid any stress or panic. Visualize. Itââ¬â¢s a health practice for the student to imagine a successful test ââ¬â literally envisioning themselves going slowly and successfully over each question, performing each in a confident, competent manner, and finishing every question calmly, thoroughly, with the least amount of stress as possible. Be alert, sit upright and, if possible, choose a comfortable seat/chair and location. A great deal of the studentââ¬â¢s success in taking a test depends on their ability to stay focused, alert and comfortable. Stay relaxed, confident ââ¬â and keep a positive attitude. Like visualizing success, the student must not let their negative thoughts cause a poor test performance. They should keep reminding themselves they are doing their best, will pass the test with flying colors, and get on with their day. A few deep breaths also help to maintain focus and composure. Read the directions carefully and avoid making errors due to carelessness. Most tests do have a time limit; however, it is more than beneficial when the student reads all directions Have a strategy. Answer questions in a strategic order, depending on the studentââ¬â¢s strengths/weaknesses, comfort level, and understanding of the content. The student may want to answer easy questions first, as sort of a warm-up, which may build confidence, then answer questions with the most point value. On objective test questions, eliminate incorrect answers: This works with multiple-choice questions, true-false questions, etc. If possible, make very broad outlines for essays. This helps the student visualize their written answer, serving as a makeshift formula for a response. If time allows, look the test over once more. Rather than turning in their test right after theyââ¬â¢re done with it, the student should hold on to their test as long as possible. They should check to make sure theyââ¬â¢ve answered every question to the best of their abilities and not made careless, pointless errors, have mismarked answers, and so on. Also, the student may find pertinent, helpful information, or even an answer to a question, at a different part of the test. Three Steps to a Great College Essay

Wait Until Marriage for Sex Essay Example
Wait Until Marriage for Sex Essay Example Wait Until Marriage for Sex Essay Wait Until Marriage for Sex Essay Teenage Girls Should Wait Until Marriage to Have Sex Is sex worth waiting for until marriage? In todayââ¬â¢s society sex is more prominent than being celibate. Even though sex entices a human being, there are still many consequences. Donââ¬â¢t put yourself in a dangerous situation that can be prevented. The intent of this paper is to help and persuade teenage girls to realize how much danger they could be putting themselves in by not waiting to have sex. The more sex you have before marriage, the greater risk you are in of getting an infection, damaging your relationship, and an unwanted pregnancy. Just imagine the risk of getting an infection. You are two steps close to getting a STD. Did you know you wouldnââ¬â¢t be able to have kids, depending on what STD you get? Sad part is it can cause birth defects and many other things to a baby and yourself. When you have your baby it could have a genetic disorder, this may also hinder your childââ¬â¢s learning. Also, you could get the disease from any other female theyââ¬â¢ve had sex with. AIDS doesnââ¬â¢t discriminate either. Anyone can become infected by it. AIDS cause people to be more vulnerable to other diseases. Since it weakens your immune system, youââ¬â¢ll die from peripheral illnesses. More sex means more of risk! It has been long said that it could be damaging to relationships. If youââ¬â¢re having sex with that person before marriage you can get too emotionally attached. You donââ¬â¢t want to be that girl that stuck on the guy because he took your virginity and broke up with you, bad look. Secondly your self- esteem can be affected negatively and positively. By you waiting it gives you much more respect for yourself. If you donââ¬â¢t wait youââ¬â¢ve given away something so special in a thoughtless way. Few girls fail to realize that if gives you less meaning to your relationship and not abstaining from it wonââ¬â¢t give you an investment of trust In final consideration you have unwanted pregnancies. Do you want the responsibility of being a parent? Children shouldnââ¬â¢t be born to teenage parents. The child is at greater risk for school failure. He or she may even grow up to become a teenage parent! Furthermore, birth control pills arenââ¬â¢t 100% effective in preventing a pregnancy. What girls forget is that birth control pills have to be taken at the same time, everyday. Birth control pills can also be affected by other medications. Certain antibiotics have been linked to reduce effectiveness in the pills. Also, condoms arenââ¬â¢t always a reliable prevention either! First off, they can easily break, depending on what kind or how you use it. Next, about 10 out of every 20 couples using condoms end up pregnant anyway within the first year. As you can see even with birth control and consistent condom use you are still at a major risk of producing a child. Virginity is a beautiful gift to be given, not an embarrassing label to be lost! Condoms arenââ¬â¢t always reliable, giving in could take over your relationship and a baby wonââ¬â¢t make him stay. What you decide today determines what life will be like for you tomorrow. ââ¬Å"Since Iââ¬â¢ve already had sex it doesnââ¬â¢t matter what I do anymore. â⬠Nothing could be more further from the truth! It may feel right, but you have no reason to be upset when you realize it was wrong. The only truly ââ¬Å"safe sexâ⬠is to save sex until you are in lifelong, committed relationship: Marriage!

Anxiety and anti-anxiety drugs In order to understand what exactly anti-anxiety drugs are, and their uses, we need to know what is anxiety and anxiety disorders are. Anxiety includes in a normal human emotion that everyone experiences at times in their life. The word anxiety is a ââ¬ËLatinââ¬â¢ word. People when face a problem like before taking a test, or making an important decision, they show anxiety or nervousness. It is a normal reaction against stressful conditions. Anxiety is an unpleasant feeling of dread, which does not control easily. People experience anxiety in three ways: 1. generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) 2. panic attacks 3. phobias GAD: People with GAD show worrying, nervousness and tension. Although the situation or that thing is not dangerous to them but they behave so anxiously and nervously about that. It may include social phobia-fear to go on social events or to meet people, animal phobia-fear from animals etc. There is difference between anxiety and fear. They are actually are two common and a different phenomenon that are misunderstood as same thing. Fear is a feeling of uneasiness and being threaten on current situation, but on the other hand Anxiety leads towards feeling of threat, intense nervousness, and uneasiness for future situations. Anxiety and fear are not always harmful but in some situations they are quite healthy, beneficial and necessary for our survival. Anxiety disorder is different. They can cause such distress that it interferes with a personââ¬â¢s ability to lead a normal life. An anxiety disorder is a serious mental illness. For people with anxiety disorders, worry and fear are constant and overwhelming, and can be crippling. Anxiety disorders can be defined as, ââ¬ËConstant feeling of threat for future events when there is no need to feel threaten that ultimately make you unable and incapable for normal functioning.ââ¬â¢ Severe anxiety that lasts up to six months is considered as abnormality and thus categorized as Anxiety disorder. Anxiety becomes a disorder when the symptoms become chronic and interfere with our daily lives and our ability to function. The reason behind this could be the family history of that person or gene or it could be certain trauma from which that person is suffering. For e.g., it is seen in many people with depression have panic attacks at some point. Some people who are anxious have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD. In addition, studies have shown that anxiety disorders run in families, which means that they can at least partly be inherited from one or both parents, like the risk for heart disease or cancer. Moreover, certain environmental factors such as a trauma or significant event may trigger an anxiety disorder in people who have an inherited susceptibility to developing the disorder. ANTI ANXIETY DRUGS: Anti-anxiety drugs are the set of medications that are made to treat anxiety disorder and relieve the patient from the feelings of tension, nervousness and discomfort by regulating heart rate and normalize breathing. If symptoms of an anxiety disorder are present, the doctor will begin an evaluation by asking you questions about your medical history and performing a physical exam. Although there are no lab tests to specifically diagnose anxiety disorders, the doctor may use various tests to look for physical illness as the cause of the symptoms. If no physical illness is found, you may be referred to a psychiatrist, psychologist, or another mental health professional that is specially trained to diagnose and treat mental illnesses. Psychiatrists and psychologists use specially designed interview and assessment tools to evaluate a person for an anxiety disorder. Anti-Anxiety Drugs include: ââ¬â Benzodiazepines (BZDs): diazepam, Chlordiazepoxide, Oxazepam, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Flurazepam. ââ¬â Azapirones: Buspione, Gepirone, Ispapirone. ââ¬â Sedative: Hydroxyzine. ââ¬â Barbiturates: Amobarbital, Pentobarbital, Phenobarbital, Thiopental. ââ¬â Beta blocker: Propranolol. ââ¬â Antidepressants. These medicines are helpful in reducing the symptoms of anxiety disorders include anti-depressants and anxiety-reducing drugs. Like, In panic attacks: it helps in to enhance the patient motivation and accelerate progress toward facing panic and all of its repercussions. Those drugs which are helpful in these area must be helpful in one of the two stages of panic. The first stage is anticipatory anxiety: all the uncomfortable physical symptoms and negative thoughts that rise up as you anticipate facing panic. The second stage is the symptoms of the panic attack itself. In general anxiety: medications help reduce some of the symptoms of anxiety. In phobias: medications can help to reduce the tensions associated with entering the fearful situation. Certain therapies are also used to treat anxiety disorder like: Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy (a type of counseling) addresses the emotional response to mental illness. It is a process in which trained mental health professionals help people by talking through strategies for understanding and dealing with their disorder. Cognitive-behavioral therapy: This is a particular type of psychotherapy in which the person learns to recognize and change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to troublesome feelings. Dietary and lifestyle changes And Relaxation therapy. â⬠¦

Select ONE of the following essay questions to answer Assignment
Select ONE of the following essay questions to answer - Assignment Example The developing nations have increased their participation in world trade from 19 percent in 1971 to 29 percent in 1999 (Saggi, 2002). However, variations were noted in terms of economic development among the different countries. For example, the African countries performed poorly in comparison with the newly industrialized economies (NIEs) of Asia that greatly prospered. The developed countries and NIEs dominated the export of manufactured goods, thereby reflecting positively on the Balance of Payments (BOP). Then again, export share of the developing countries in commodities such as, food and raw materials, declined over the period. Another major aspect of globalisation is capital and investment movements. "Aid" or "development assistance" forwarded to the developing countries, before 1980s, were replaced by private capital during 1990s. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) became a major form of investments made in the developing countries. The migration of people between the developing and less developed nations doubled in the period 1965ââ¬â90 (Saggi, 2002). A very small portion of the masses, implying the industrialists, can compete on an international level, besides the national level. For example, Lakshmi Mittal, who is a powerful presence in the global steel market, do not need to restrict his business expansion to any one nation after globalisation, unlike previous business tycoons. This fact also holds true for the banking classes because globalisation has facilitated the free flow of finance among various countries. Sportsmen and entertainers of international acclaim has also benefitted due to globalisation. For instance, the famous tennis player, Maria Sharaprova, does not only earn from the games played, but also from the international endorsements made for various multinational corporations. Even film-makers are presently able to draw greater income as the domestic earnings of films have been
